About your child’s first visit
A child’s first dental visit should be scheduled around his/her first birthday. The most important part of the visit is getting to know and becoming comfortable with a doctor and his staff. We want your child’s first visit to our office to be a positive one. It is our goal that the first visit will help to establish a relationship of trust. During the initial exam we typically review your child’s medical history, take radiographs (x-rays) if indicated, give oral hygiene instructions along with suggestions to help you care for your teeth, and provide a detailed evaluation that will outline your existing dental problems and proposed treatment. In most cases, we will also clean your child’s teeth during this visit.
As part of our practice philosophy, we typically do not perform dental treatment at the first visit. An anticipatory guidance of oral development, diet and nutrition, fluoride adequacy, oral habits, injury prevention and oral hygiene will be addressed. A pleasant, comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease during future dental visits.
If you would like to come by and visit our office and staff before scheduling your initial appointment than feel free to come by! We look forward to meeting your and your child on your first visit!
